Its been almost a couple of months since i last wrote a Second brikabrak post, i have been keeping my pennies away from charity shops, auctions and carboot sales whilst we decorated as i didnt want to have to find places for more stuff! Me and D nipped into Oadby on Saturday to get a gift for a friend and popped into our two favorite charity shops whilst we were there. We bought Noddy and Thomas the Tank Engine dinner things as we needed the cutlery anyway. This lot was cheaper than if id bought some kids cutlery brand new!
I also bought a book for myself, to cut up for future craft projects. Then on Sunday we visited a postcard and stamp fair. We were the youngest there with everyone else being over 60, D made me laugh by loudly telling me " Mum, everyone in here is really old! " and then we had a conversation about death which we do often, he seems to like the subject. Everybody seemed to love him though and they showed him their postcards and one man even gave him a pack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tea cards. Me and my brother loved that programme when we were kids and even won a radio competition where the prize was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles record! We dont really want these tea cards so if you do then let me know and il post them to you, no need to send any money!
Then i treated myself to 6 postcards, 3 are for display and the other three are for craft projects or to be used as bookmarks. I love them all actually, especially the bottom 3 and the eggs.
Im hoping to get to the carboot sale again soon and the auction in a week or two insha'Allah. Oh, if any of you love old books like i do, i have some on ebay at the moment after rearranging our bookshelves.

For me, buying secondhand is about re-using what we have, and appreciating the quality, integrity and workmanship of brikabrak of a bygone age. Enjoying old book illustrations and the language of gentlemen, or the nostalgia of finding toys i remember from my childhood which have been loved by many children over the years. Secondhand clothes mean less chemicals touching our skin, and not having to worry too much about stains left by little boys. Buying new all the time is unnecessary when everything we need is out there already. I cant bear to fund the creation of more *stuff*.
This post was inspired by Magpie Monday by Me and my shadow.
