About once a month i like to have a week of trying new recipes - i choose about 5 meals and write down a list of exactly what i need for them and then order them so that they are delivered to me all in one go (although i nip to the butchers for the meat). Yesterday i made fish tagine which i have never tried before and i think it is a recipe worth sharing! It shall definitely be getting glued into my recipe scrapbook insha'Allah. Unfortunately i only photographed it today when we had the left overs for lunch with warm buttered toast (minus the actual fish) but im sure you get the picture.
Please excuse my accidental splodge of something or other, but i do like the authentic look, i like my recipe scrapbooks to have splashes all over the place so that i have proof that they are actually used!
People are always asking me what i usually cook because they are board of having the same meals over and over, i think the key is to use recipe books and try new meals. There is no need to feel intimidated by cook books, many recipes are not as difficult as they seem.
Today D also helped me to bake a Swedish apple cake to take to a friends house just down the road. He likes to stir the mixture and to add the teaspoons of things, today it was salt, cinnamon and ground cloves. He always likes to say "and then 50 grams of salt / cinnamon / whatever it may be" - 50 grams seems to be his favourite measurement!
I bought these scales for 50p. They came with a silver bowl which would not stay put because the top of the scales is not flat. So i super-glued this pretty plate on top so that the bowl now sits perfectly still. (As you can see i hadn't turned the cog to get the scales to zero but i did remember to do it before i actually started weighing anything!)
It sits on my kitchen shelves propping my recipe books up, above old tins and teapots. I love this little corner of my kitchen, its useful and pretty all at the same time, and that makes me very happy indeed!
2 little messages:
I like your clever fix for the scale. I've got some tilapia in the freezer, maybe I'll give this a try for Sunday dinner. I'll be off my "no meats no sweets" fast by then!
happy new year aqeela
