One thing which I absolutely loved about my childhood was the den building. My mum used to give us sheets and we would use them with the dining table and chairs to make a cosy tent for us to play in. I remember i used to put my quilt in there with blankets, pillows and cushions and all of my cuddly toys. I always loved that feeling of being cosy, secure and secluded. I still love it now. I had a friend over to sleep one time in my den, and i also used to play 'Post Office' and 'Schools' with my toys under there (and with my brother if he would join in - he's 4 years older.)
When our dog was in season we used to keep her outside in the garden. A few times i took blankets out into the shed and slept with her all night to keep her warm and just because i loved her so much. I also loved the adventure of it all. Me and D are going to sleep in a tent in the back garden this year i think. Im so excited!
Now i build dens with D and he loves them just as much as me. He goes around the house collecting up toys and putting them inside, and he likes to read books to himself in there too, with his homemade blanket on his legs. Today we built one upstairs on the landing and i let him have his quilt in there. It looked so cosy but i had to crack on with the ironing since I've let it pile up a little too high. I managed to do about three quarters of it, insha'Allah the rest will get done in a day or two.
I iron in our spare room with Radio 4 on and D normally jumps in and out of the old crib i keep our crumpled clothes in, or plays with toys in his bedroom or he spends an hour or so in and out of his den on the landing. And usually i get a very nice chunk of it done before he gets fed up!
2 little messages:
I love Dens :) and my three are forever collecting every bed sheet they can find to make one somewhere or other too :)
That would be great fun. My brothers used to do that too, but called it their cave instead of their den.
